Thaqab Series
THAQAB — is an abandoned village in Qatar, located in the municipality of Ash Shamal (north), approximately 110 km away from the capital Doha. Ath THAQAB Fort is rectangular in shape and has four towers. A court-yard with stairs leading to the towers are in the center of the fort. It dates to somewhere between the 17th and 19th century
The word THAQAB has an intriguing meaning which refers to “the water in the bottom of the valley after the rain”. To the west of the fort, there is a deep well. Villagers used to get their water from this well which is a very precious commodity in the desert. So it is believed that the fort was built to guard that well and provide shelter to villagers.
